Quincy shrugged me off, preferring to clean his face with his paws.
“You gotta help me. What am I going to write about?”
I must be desperate, if I’m talking to a cat. My lightbulb of inspiration had fizzled out. I sat there, looking at the blank page on my computer screen, for about five minutes. “Okay. I give in. Let’s see what the digital dictionary and thesaurus have to say about spicy.” A split second later, the results popped up. “There’s a few interesting choices here. Pungent, zesty, scandalous, salacious, immodest and indelicate. That all sounds too much like a bad romance. Help me out here, Quincy. I don’t write romance.”
The cat continued to ignore me.
“Well, since it’s happening in real time, let’s check out the word ignore.” A few more clicks of the keyboard gave me a new sampling of words to choose from. “Disregard, snub, spurn, disdain, shun and neglect. Ah, that’s more like it. I can do something with these. They always say—write about what you know.”
